Keys to Victorious Living
I John 5:1-6

I)                   Exceptional Leadership
a.       Sir Alex Ferguson, manager of Manchester United, is the most successful football manager of all time. He has won 37 trophies, 12 of which are league titles (think Super Bowl) in 25 years at United and 48 trophies in a 37 year career.
b.      He is successful because he has an exceptional ability to get the best from his players by
                                                              i.      Chastisement
                                                            ii.      Praise
                                                          iii.      Motivation
c.       Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is an exceptional leader of men. He took 12 nobodies and through chastisement, praise, and motivation turned the world upside down.
d.      What are they trying to teach us to do?

II)                Expect Victory
a.       Sir Alex doesn’t just plan for victory he expects it every time the team takes the field and he instils this in his players.
b.      Christ has victoriously overcome the world and He has a reasonable expectation that we, through the power of the Holy Spirit, victoriously overcome the world as well.
c.       But one must expect victory
                                                              i.      One must expect a decisive victory {we are more than conqueror} (Romans 8:35-39)
ii.      We can win decisive victories over sin and death (I Corinthians 15:55-58)
iii.      Do you expect to be victorious every day of your life? You should do.

III)             Experience Victory
a.       Sir Alex took a mediocre team that had not won the league in 26 years and turned it into one of the greatest teams in the world.
b.      Jesus Christ has taken certain physical and spiritual death and turned it into the greatest victory the world can ever know
c.       One can have an exceptional leader and expect victory but if one does not take the field victory will never be experienced.
                                                              i.      Our faith gives us victory (I John 5:4)
ii.      It must be a working faith {take the field} - Faith without works is dead (James 2:17-20)
iii.      Our faith (victory) will be rewarded. (Hebrews 6:6)
d.      Will you by faith in Jesus Christ claim the victory He has so graciously provided?
